Why Choose Our Appraisal Service
Hands-On Evaluation You Can Count On
Online price guides and auction listings only tell part of the story. Coin values depend on subtle factors that require physical examination: the precise grade, strike quality, mint errors, and dozens of other details that affect price.
Here’s what sets us apart:
- Decades of numismatic experience evaluating U.S. and foreign coins of all types
- Industry pricing resources including PCGS, NGC, and Greysheet data
- Precision testing equipment to verify metal content, detect counterfeits, and authenticate rare pieces
- Honest, consistent appraisals whether you sell to us or walk out the door

What We Appraise
Gold Coins
American Eagles, Pre-1933 U.S. gold, Krugerrands, Sovereigns, and obscure world gold all come through our doors. We test purity, identify dates and mintmarks, and calculate both bullion value and any collector premium.
Silver Coins
There's a big gap between a bag of old Washington quarters and a pristine 1893-S Morgan dollar. We figure out exactly where your silver falls on that spectrum and price it accordingly.
Rare & Collectible
Some coins look ordinary but carry five-figure price tags because of a small detail most people miss. We catch those details. Key dates, doubled dies, repunched mintmarks, proof strikes, and high-grade survivors all get the attention they deserve.
Estate Collections
Don't know a Mercury dime from a Barber dime? No problem. We sort through entire estates, identify every coin, and give you a complete picture of what you're holding.
✦
How We Determine Value
Our appraisals combine hands-on examination with industry-standard pricing resources to give you accurate, current values.
Metal Content Analysis
Gold and silver coins get weighed and tested. We calculate precise melt values using current spot prices.
Authenticity Verification
Suspicious coins get extra scrutiny. We use magnification, weight checks, and known diagnostic markers to separate genuine pieces from fakes.
Current Market Data
We pull from PCGS, NGC, Greysheet, and recent auction records to land on values that reflect what buyers are actually paying right now.
Need It In Writing? Most appraisals happen on the spot during your visit. If you need formal documentation for insurance coverage or probate, we can prepare a written report. Large or complicated collections may take extra time.

The Appraisal Process
Step 1: Walk In
Our San Diego location welcomes walk-ins during regular hours. Dealing with a large estate or want a quieter setting? Call ahead and we’ll block out time just for you.
Step 2: We Examine Your Coins
One of our numismatic specialists goes through each piece. We check dates, mintmarks, and surface condition. We hunt for the varieties and errors that add value. Anything questionable gets tested and authenticated.
Step 3: You Get the Full Picture
We tell you what each coin is, what it’s worth, and why. You’ll leave understanding the difference between bullion value and collector value, and knowing which pieces in your collection matter most.
Step 4: You Decide What Happens Next
Want to sell? We’ll make an offer. Want to keep everything? Great. Need the information for an insurance policy or estate filing? Use it however you need. Zero pressure either way.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Do you actually not charge anything?
Correct. Verbal appraisals are free no matter how many coins you bring. We do this because helping people understand their coins is good for everyone. Most people who learn they have something valuable end up doing business with us eventually.
Should I call first?
For a handful of coins, just stop by. For a large inherited collection or a situation where you'd prefer privacy, scheduling ahead makes sense. That way you get our full attention without waiting.
How much time should I set aside?
A few coins takes 15-20 minutes. A full estate collection or coins that need research could take an hour or longer. We spend whatever time is necessary to get it right.
What about written appraisals for insurance?
We offer those. The verbal assessment during your visit is always free. Formal written documentation for larger collections may carry a small fee to cover the extra work involved.
What if I'm just curious and not selling?
That's completely fine. A lot of people come in with no intention of selling. They just want to know. You're welcome to walk out with nothing but knowledge, and we'll consider that time well spent.
